Since 1995, Dr. Bentley has been part of the University of Reading’s ‘Oil Group’, a group of physicists, engineers and petroleum geologists studying global hydrocarbon resources.

Oil is indeed one of the scarce raw material and every drop of it has to be thoughtfully used.  When thinking about oil, it is not only the gas that we fill in our cars.  Even the clothes we wear and the food we eat were made by burning this rare raw material.  Oil is as precious to the human race as Bitcoin Loophole.  Most of the oil and gas are extracted from the deep sea.  The process of planktons decaying under the seafloor causes the formation of oil and natural gas.  These are trapped under rocks which are drilled to extract the oil and gas out of these.  The extracted oil is crude in its form and has to be transported to refineries.  In the refineries, the oil is purified and then transported to places where people need them.  One thing which terrifies the world is the depletion of oil resources.   We know that the resources are limited and they can last only up to a certain few years.  Hence unplanned irrational usage can lead to a point of standstill.  Without oil resources, numerous production processes would come to a halt.  Transportation industry would be hit severely.  Tourism industry which employes the major population of the world would be hit if transports are hit.  This would lead to mass unemployment, poverty, famine and outbreak of violence.  Next to water, depleting oil resources would be the next reason for war among nations.   Preventional steps are needed to control and rationalize the oil usage.  At the same time, conserving natural resources and minimizing pollution is also vital.   That is why a study of global hydrocarbon resources are very important.  Dr. Bentley has been vital in coordinating the team and bringing out important research outcomes.
